Emberá Dobidá

This photographic work documents a day alongside the Emberá Dobidá community in the department of Chocó, Colombia. Known as “people of the river,” the Emberá Dobidá inhabit territories near the Baudó River basin and the Alto San Juan, where water shapes their daily life, worldview, and collective memory.

Rich in ancestral traditions—such as body painting, ceremonial dances, and oral knowledge—the community continues to preserve its cultural identity amid constant external pressures, including territorial displacement, armed conflict, and environmental threats.
